News about the donor wall coming

The donor wall as it is. There are big changes coming. Photo by Bryna Idler.

Over the past week directors from the Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation stuffed and sealed 600 envelopes to the many donors and supporters of the foundation. The letters were sent to all the donors whose names appear on our donor wall at the hospital and deal with some changes we’re planning.

In the near future we’ll have some great news about how we recognize our amazing supporters.

Thanks to all the directors who took the time to stuff envelopes. Thankfully Bryna Idler, our administrator, provided these great little bottles that hold water and deliver it to the envelopes through a sponge.

Polar Bear dip a success

We raised $459.36 from the January 1st Polar Bear dip.

Thanks to all the brave folks who hit the water at Lakeside Park, and thanks to Kris Kolmel for all his kayak rolls he did that day as well.

You can read about the day at the Nelson Star, Nelson Daily and Nelson Post.

Light Up! fundraiser exceeds its targets

The 2010 Light Up The Hospital! fundraiser had a $90,000 goal for 2010 and the community helped the foundation beat that target by $7,000.

That’s right. We raised $97,000 to help buy new equipment for new emergency ward underway at Kootenay Lake Hospital

That equipment includes:

  1. A Transport Ventilator to assist or enable a patient to breathe,
  2. A Pediatric Monitor to check children’s vital signs in emergency situations,
  3. A Glidescope Video Laryngoscope to view a patient’s airway and enable quick intubation,
  4. 2 Trauma Stretchers  to provide a secure platform when assessing patient injuries,
  5. An OB/Gyn Stretcher to allow special care for female patients with emergency obstetrical or gynecological issues, and
  6. A Cardiac Probe for our portable ultrasound to allow medical staff to use the existing equipment in a way they’ve never been able to use it before – to get a closer view of the area around the heart.

These essential pieces of equipment will help ensure better urgent care for all 33,000 people in the Nelson and north lakes area.

Thank you everyone!
